If you are reading this, chances are you spend a lot of time online. Keeping up with the news, friends and family, finding things to do around town, watching videos—just about all the information we need is on the Internet in one form or the other. Or is it? What if there was a public resource for the whole community to read and learn together for free? It would have books, magazines, comics, movies, music, activities, and organizations for all ages and interests. Well, folks, this crazy thing exists, and it’s called a library…

Take A Page Out Of The Book Of Life

With the entire Internet in your hands every minute of the day, it’s easy to overlook the great resources we have right here in our own community. Did you know that the Schaumburg Township District Library is the second largest public library in Illinois? 166,000 square feet of knowledge, the Schaumburg Township District Library has every kind of media available for free rental, from new books and fiction to non-fiction and reference, periodicals, children’s’ books, and young adult literature… and that’s just in print! Now that so many book stores have closed down, there’s not many places you can simply walk into a flip through a book or magazine with a cup of coffee.

Schaumburg Township District Library also has an extensive audiovisual catalog, with music and movies of every era and genre. Sure, you can download or stream a lot of this stuff, but slow connections and iTunes rental fees are a pain. Besides, picking out a movie at the library is like going to a rental store—the whole family can look around to pick a selection. You might even find something rare. Plus, you get to go out for a nice walk and look forward to your selection on the way home.

They offer resources that you simply can’t get online, from youth services and teen organizations, a career services center, tutoring, digital production studios, public workshops and seminars, and more. The calendar of events at the Schaumburg Township District Library is so stuffed with different activities that it would be impossible to list them all here. 3D printing workshops, tax resources, quilting, cinema clubs, and board games are just some of the fun things that are always going on at the library.

Needless to say, the Schaumburg Township District Library is an invaluable destination for young and old alike. If you want to keep your mind and community spirit healthy, get off your phone and check out some of the resources your tax dollars are paying for. It will bring a smile to your face for sure.
